Commitment to Pharmacy

Professional leadership body

Leadership, representation and advocacy

Leadership, representation and advocacy is a key function of the professional leadership body. It is through this that the professional leadership body will be influential at the highest levels and will be publicly recognised as the voice of pharmacy.

This workstream will ensure that the organisation has the capacity, knowledge and processes to lead and advocate for the profession. It will also explore how the widespread expertise of the membership can be harnessed.

There are two projects within this workstream, these being:

Leadership and advocacy

Our aim is to ensure that pharmacy has a strong, clear voice that is heard by governments, the General Pharmaceutical Council, other health professions, the media and the public. This includes being able to speak equally authoritatively on any aspect of members’ practice and on issues affecting the safe and effective use of medicines.

More information on Leadership & Advocacy

The leadership and advocacy workstream aim to raise the professional status of pharmacy by promoting the profession in the media. This workstream also aims to help the pharmacy profession with key issues they are facing. To read about some campaigns that the Society has been involved with, see link below:

Local leadership

One key objective of the Leadership and Advocacy Group is to develop local as well as national leadership. It will establish a new sub-group to put together proposals for how the professional leadership body can nurture local leaders.

The subgroup will work alongside Leading Across Boundaries, a unique programme aiming to develop the leadership potential of individual pharmacists across the public and private sectors.
